As the end of the school year approaches and seniors are on the brink of graduation, there has been much emphasis placed on the preparation of prom. This year’s junior prom theme was Garden of Lights, while the senior prom theme was Hollywood. Ava Wu and Sophia Glavine are two students working on making prom a memorable experience this year.
The process of preparing such an important event can be challenging, and great effort goes into ensuring prom is a success.
“Prom preparation is done throughout the entire year so logistics are relatively well spread out meaning that I only need to spend at most 2 hours on class council activities,” Wu said.
Yet, this doesn’t mean that there are no challenges whatsoever. Communicating with the venue and managing different sections proved to be difficult.
“The most challenging but also best part of prom is overcoming unexpected conflicts, for example Gillette Stadium booked the Rolling Stones on the day of our prom and didn’t tell us until last minute,” Wu said.
Regardless of the challenges, things worked out smoothly in the end.
“We were able to work around it and ultimately got a discounted price for the venue,” Wu said.
Although the event eventually proved successful, a team of dedicated students and staff worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make it happen.
“We worked together as a cabinet and our advisors to plan out most of the logistics for prom. And of course, our class council was super helpful in making most of these decisions,” Glavine said.
Senior prom is arguably one of the most memorable events for upperclassmen at Lexington High School. It marks a culmination of their high school journey, bringing together years of friendships and shared experiences in one final, celebratory night.
“My favorite aspect of prom was seeing everything come together. Once we got close to prom and began finalizing details, it was great to see how much excitement everyone had and as a cabinet, we were really excited for our grade to experience what we have been working towards for so long,” Glavine said.
