Dear readers,
As the first month of school comes to a close, we now arrive at possibly the most exciting (and economical) event of the year: the Activities Fair!
As a child, you probably perused through grocery store aisles, pointing out splashes of color or catch phrases (ex. Lucky Charms!). If you’ve been to Costco during mealtimes, you’ve probably bounced around from station to station, sampling various exotic foods. Eliminate the cost factor, and you get the Activities Fair (though the variety might be a work in progress). Anyone can sign up for a club with no commitment required (time is money!), and most clubs have freebies to reel in hesitant onlookers.
If you’re on the fence about a club, my advice is to sign up, continue browsing, and then decide your individual commitment to each club afterward. Time is usually of the essence in high school, but especially during the Activities Fair. With 150 different clubs at LHS, you’ll likely find yourself rushing to class afterward, feeling like you’ve explored less than half your options. It’s like only being halfway down the grocery aisle when the bell rings, knowing that there were likely goodies you missed.
Unlike unofficially established lunch spots, clubs function dynamically, with people coming and going all the time. Therefore, putting your email down for more clubs isn’t necessarily piling more on your plate. You might already have certain clubs in mind even before the Activities Fair, but before you refine your palate, consider checking out a variety of (healthy) academic clubs, snacking on the fun and games, and seeking out an assortment of community service options! With a blend of the passion-driven, recharging, and service-based clubs, LHS offers a table to anyone looking to sample a balanced club selection.
The Activities Fair is a refreshing opportunity to explore the various niches within LHS, connect with new social circles, and, of course, join The Musket. Just to be clear: we welcome bonding over favorite foods here, too.
Hope to see you all there!
Ella
