Spring has arrived here in Lexington, Massachusetts, but for Lexington High School students, the warm weather comes with a side of terror: Math Finals! Just the thought strikes fear into many, and despite the nice weather, it’s been hard to find moments of peace outside. Although it’s important to study for final exams, it’s just as important to take breaks. It’s during these moments that your brain relaxes and prepares itself for absorbing more information.
With the improving weather, a myriad of outdoor activities has opened up! Fruit and flower picking opportunities are available now if you have a chance during the weekend for a needed break from reviewing materials. Hanson’s Farm, a farm open year-round for seasonal pickings, currently has flowers and pumpkins! Strawberries will also be open for picking later in the summer. Other than picking your own, Hanson’s Farm also has a big sunflower field that you can walk through and take pictures in!
Hanson’s Farm is a great way to enjoy the new weather, but it’s also a 30-minute drive away from Lexington. Admission into the sunflower field is $20 for individuals older than twelve years, and it also includes access to the corn maze, hayride, animals, as well as a free small pumpkin. Pricing for the pick-your-own varies on what you pick as well as how much you pick, although the price should be pretty reasonable.
When going out to the farm, keep in mind that it won’t be very fun if you’re hauling around a heavy backpack and water bottle, so it will be best to keep those in the car. It’s also important to plan out which day you’ll be going, as the weather will be an especially important factor in this trip. No one wants to be soggy after a sudden downpour, or sunburnt from the blazing sun – mini umbrellas and travel sunscreens are essentials! You won’t just be bringing back flowers and fruits from this trip, but also the need to decorate the school with the colors of spring!
