For senior Marc Chedid, Lexington High School’s center forward, soccer has been a lifelong passion. From playing on the fields of Lincoln Field to leading his teammates, Chedid’s dedication and hard work have now paid off. Chedid recently committed to Bates College, where he will continue his athletic and academic journey.
When considering where he would like to continue his soccer career, Chedid felt confident that Bates was the right fit.
“It’s a great academic school that had what I was looking for as a major, which was computer science,” Chedid said. “They’re also a strong soccer team, and the coach showed a lot of appreciation for my skill.”
Though he found the recruiting process to be challenging, Chedid believed it to be fulfilling in the end.
“[It] requires me to talk to coaches and for them to evaluate me as a player. If they decide that I could get into the school academically, and I am a fit for their program,” Chedid explained.
Chedid initially made the LHS varsity soccer team as a sophomore, which helped him as both a player and a person.
“I got to grow a lot by having older players to look up to, and for them to teach me the steps of being a leader and being a better soccer player,” Chedid said.
Now, as a senior, Chedid recalls that his most memorable high school moment was during a playoff comeback against Concord.
“We were down 2-0, and then we scored two goals, so I got really excited. It was just a great moment for me and the team, even though we lost after. I thought we played our hearts out,” Chedid said.
Chedid hopes to inspire younger players to work hard and follow their passions, both in sports and in life. His experience highlights the challenges of balancing academics with athletics, while never losing sight of what matters most: a love for the game.
“If you enjoy the game, then whenever you have free time, just go outside and kick the ball up […] Over time, that will build up your skills, and you’ll become one of the best players for your age,” Chedid said.
