On Friday, March 13, from 5:00 to 9:30 p.m., Lexington High School’s Asian Student Union (ASU) hosted this year’s Asian Night. Asian Night is an annual celebration of the different cultures across Asia. Students at LHS had the opportunity to express their culture through dances, musical performances, and more.
“It’s important to have events like Asian Night so we can showcase our Asian heritage to the larger Asian community here in Lexington, and also for anyone else who wants to come enjoy and learn about Asian culture,” Angela Shi, a senior and ASU member, said.
According to Shi, Asian Night has been a highlight of the school year for over a decade. The event starts with a Pan-Asian dinner served by ASU volunteers, followed by a night of performances in the LHS auditorium.
ASU’s members worked hard to organize this year’s Asian Night. The club coordinated food preparations, ensured that acts ran smoothly, and maintained the atmosphere of the event to match its importance to the community.
Asian Night aims to not only display the diversity and beauty of Asian culture, but also to promote Asian identity through modern celebrations.
“I’m excited for the dances that we’re doing this year because they include songs that just came out this year, like ‘Soda Pop’ from K-Pop Demon Hunters,” Shi said.
The event was a night of fun, learning, and good food. It also served as a way for the Lexington youth to give back to the community by celebrating diversity.
“All people of Asian heritage are welcomed here, and we hope that they feel that they belong,” Shi said.
